The workshop
A boutique-workshop for designing and selling coral jewelry in the heart of Le Panier district in Marseille.
Jonas and Gaëlle,
from branch to pearl
Jonas was a diver. Gaëlle worked in agri-food marketing. Both passionate about the sea and the taste of things well done, they wanted to come together around a common activity.
With a lot of effort and perseverance, Jonas obtained a coral fishing license and Gaëlle trained in jewelry design.
From this love story were born two shops and two pearls that are not made of coral: their children.
The coral workshop is therefore not just about jewelry. It's a sensibility, a vision of today, and two hands. The desire to make beautiful things with the best that nature gives us.
Jonas, diver and coral diver in Marseille
Jonas dives to depths of over 100 meters. He also helps Gaëlle design jewelry. Coral harvesting is dangerous and requires great care, especially to protect the corals and their breeding grounds.
Gaëlle,
coral jewelry
Inventive, creative, and passionate, she designs jewelry every day and takes pleasure in sharing and describing the various aspects of the jeweler's craft and the history of Marseille coral with all the visitors who cross the threshold of her shop of wonders. She is the one to contact if you wish to create a unique, custom-made piece of coral bead jewelry.
The Coral Workshop, a place of creativity and education
The coral workshop is conceived as a link between what happens underwater and above water. Both a shop and a production space, coral is worked there in all its forms.
The raw material, known for millennia, has a very particular history in Marseille, often unknown to the general public. We were also fortunate enough to set up shop in the very district where coral flourished in our city, Le Panier.
A neighborhood steeped in history, undoubtedly the most emblematic of Marseille. It is here that we are resolutely committed to preserving for as long as possible a forgotten piece of craftsmanship from our Phocaean city.
